Uncle Fred’s apartment and needs

Steam and the official site both open on help from the player’s uncle: an apartment plus a first job. That is the occupancy line on the Garment District plate, not a skippable cutscene. 1.0 later places Uncle Fred’s home in The Hamptons with golf nemesis Richard, so the same relative who signed you in is also the far end of the neighbourhood scale.

You can enter and buy buildings from a small apartment to a Midtown penthouse or Hell’s Kitchen townhouse, according to the official real-estate copy. None of those destinations replace the starter occupancy. The first job is how cash appears before a shop exists; treat it as the bridge into rent, not as a career you keep once the till is staffed.

Keep the apartment until a better home is actually purchased. The 1.0 notes put Uncle Fred on a Hamptons fairway later; that is flavour for the seventh neighbourhood, not a skip of Garment District.

The Steam about text frames Big Ambitions as a life sim. Sleep, health and happiness are real meters. In 1.0 energy drains faster when hunger and happiness are low, so the second clause is not flavour: a tired owner cannot stock, hire or sit the till efficiently on day one.

1.0 adds Speedy Bites food delivery to home or business, which is how hunger gets solved without leaving a shift. Hamptons toys (golf, tennis, Brick Breaker) arrive much later; they do not feed the first week. Furniture also received a 1.0 pass, which changes how a home or shop looks without publishing a price list here.

Voogle Maps for-rent

The official Steam overlay shows Voogle Maps over Garment District at 37 1st Street, with MAP FILTERS for jobs, cinema, office, retail, theater, warehouse and food delivery. Buildings-for-rent is how the first shop is listed. 44 5th Avenue appears on the same starter screenshots as an alternate street number for that turf.

Ingrid Schneider is the special rival on this district. Renting here is the 1.0 start, not a later expansion. Filter chips on the overlay already name cinema and theater even if your first lease is a gift shop; those types arrived in EA 0.10 and remain in the 1.0 filter set.

If the overlay is closed, BizMan still opens the business once the lease exists. The first shop does not require a warehouse P/Q lot; Industry City is a later neighbourhood with factory sizes, not the 37 1st Street listing.

Keep the overlay’s job filter in mind even before you hire: Customer Service and Delivery Driver are already listed. Food delivery on that overlay is the 1.0 Speedy Bites layer, which also appears as a cash job if you want extra income before HQ.

Stock the floor and hire off the till

Once the lease is signed, the shop fitter is the next surface: an isometric floor where carpet lists at $225 and other tiles sit in a $20–$50 band on the official interior-designer still. Stock follows furniture. Gift shop is the homepage’s named retail start; supermarket, coffee shop, clothing store, liquor store, florist, night club, fast-food and gym are the rest of that retail group.

Hovgaard’s homepage copy also lists law firm, clothing store and night club among named paths, and talks about taking a loan, designing a logo and renovating before stock. This page does not invent opening-hours math. Jewelry, electronics and hairdresser shops appear on community wikis; they are not in the official homepage list, so they stay off the first-shop recommendation.

The last clause on this lease is a hire so the owner is not the only cashier. Customer Service and Delivery Driver already appear on the Voogle Maps job filter. Larger operations later need HQ desks: HR Managers, Logistics Managers, Purchasing Agents, and in 1.0 a Pricing Manager. Speedy Bites can also put you on food delivery for cash.

MyEmployees sits in the same phone tray as Persona and Contacts on the MarketInsider screenshot. You do not need a headquarters to complete the five-clause board; HQ is the next lease after the till is covered. Cleaning skill caps and recruiter shop names are community-derived and are not in this confirmed table.

BizPhone apps on day one

Eight apps are visible in official Steam UI or named in 0.5/1.0 notes: Voogle Maps, BizMan, MarketInsider, EconoView, Rivals, MyEmployees, Persona and Contacts. Voogle Maps is the rent and job overlay. BizMan is the business app; warehouse shots use Open in BizMan. MarketInsider shows class mix, real-estate prices, events and product demand for all seven districts.

EconoView is where 1.0 puts taxes. Rivals arrived with EA 0.5 for special-rival attacks and a top-20 board. The remaining three names are on the phone tray in the MarketInsider still. Treat them as the starter HUD, not as a rebuilt phone OS on this site.

Contacts is how Uncle Fred and later Richard stay in the phone list. Persona is on the same tray; first-party notes do not spell out its screens, so this guide does not invent them.

You will reopen these apps after the first week: MarketInsider when you pick a second district, EconoView when tax is due, Rivals when Ingrid Schneider attacks. Day one only needs Maps, sleep and a lease.
